Boltz Has Suspended Its Swap Services. Your Funds Are Safe. Here Is What It Means for Bull Wallet Users.
Boltz, the non-custodial swap infrastructure that the BULL Wallet relies on for Lightning payments and for Liquid-to-Bitcoin swaps, has suspended its services until further notice. No user funds are at risk, because Boltz is non-custodial by design and so is the BULL Wallet.
BULL is immediately shifting its priorities to restore the ability of BULL Wallet users to send and receive Bitcoin payments over Lightning, and to move funds between Liquid and Bitcoin. We are evaluating multiple options and the work has already begun. All of our immediate action plans target the same goal, the only questions are implementation details, and we will figure it out.
And let us be clear about one thing before going any further: Bull Bitcoin is a member of the Liquid federation and can effortlessly convert L-BTC to BTC without any third party. No BULL Wallet user will have funds stuck on Liquid. That is a guarantee.
The following works normally:
Sending and receiving bitcoin on-chain
Sending and receiving on Liquid
Everything related to storage: backups, Recoverbull, restoring your wallet
The following will fail until further notice:
Sending Lightning payments
Receiving Lightning payments
Swapping between Liquid and Bitcoin
If you have funds on Liquid, they are not stuck and they will not be. We will soon announce a practical solution to facilitate conversions for users desiring to swap their LBTC to BTC (on-chain)
If you had a swap in progress when Boltz suspended its services, unilateral refunds work by design, because they do not depend on Boltz's infrastructure. Boltz's API also remains available to process refunds cooperatively, and their support team stays reachable. If you need help with a refund, contact our support team and we will walk you through it.
If you were stacking small amounts on Liquid with the intention of swapping to on-chain later, which is the approach we recommend to avoid creating small UTXOs, your plan still holds: you will be able to swap back on-chain as soon as our replacement LBTC <-> BTC swap mechanism will be online.
Follow @BullBitcoin_ on 𝕏 for real-time updates, and reach out to our support team if anything is unclear: you will talk to real humans, as always.
We have work to do.
