The fundamental elements of Bitcoin’s accounting system are transactions with inputs, outputs, and amounts (in satoshis). The input is either a coinbase transaction (newly mined bitcoin), or the output of a prior transaction which hasn’t been spent already, called an Unspent Transaction Output (UTXO).
